Assessment & Therapy

A range of specific assessment procedures are available both formally and informally. These will be selected depending on the needs of the young person. Assessment forms the basis of any targeted intervention and therapy; it also forms a baseline of the young person’s profile which can better inform those supporting the young person.

I do use some specialised assessments for looking at language processing difficulties in background noise. This can help with understanding your auditory processing skills.

The therapy provided also depends on the underlying area of speech, language or communication the young person and the assessment process has highlighted as a need.

Tele-therapy is available.

Myofunctional Therapy Assessment takes 2 hours and includes a sleep screen questionaire, posture screening, eating and drinking assessment, Tongue position/ tongue mobility and speech assessment. Photographs and videos are always required for assessment. Myofunctional therapy intervention may also require referral to specialist Dentists, Cranio Osteopaths, and ENT depending on needs.

Approaches/ Clinical training include: Makaton, Cued Articulation, Picture Exchange Communication (PECs), Low tech AAC, Colourful Semantics, Shape Coding by Susan Ebbels, Social Stories, Talkabout, Psycholingistic profiling for speech sound difficulties, Higher level language skills such as Narrative work/ Conversation and Inferencing skills.
